About
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration, which started its teaching activities at the undergraduate level with 120 students in the 2010-2011 academic year, provides an education in which political and administrative issues, which are closely related fields, are addressed from a scientific perspective. Students who receive this education are equipped with the knowledge and skills that a manager in the public and private sectors will need, as well as gaining a scientific perspective on social, political and intellectual issues.
On the one hand in line with the aim of educating the managers of the future in the light of contemporary principles, our primary goal is to train qualified individuals who will work in public institutions and private organisations. On the other hand, to improve the professional knowledge and skills of those who are currently working in these institutions and organisations. In this sense, the main goal of our department in public administration education is to increase the capacity of our students to understand and interpret society, to develop their ability to comprehend and analyse administrative processes and political events in depth, and to have a say in political, economic, social and legal issues. Our aim is not only to emphasise political and social events, but also to raise qualified individuals who can question, analyse, interpret and produce solutions by evaluating these political and social events scientifically.
The undergraduate curriculum of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration not only focuses on the basic aspects of public administration (constitutional law, administrative law, administrative judiciary, public finance, local governments, history of Turkish administration, etc.) but also deals with the technical issues of the field of administration (accounting, personnel management, economic and financial management, tax system, etc.). In addition to these, a rich and interdisciplinary programme is offered in terms of main branches of law (civil law, law of obligations, labour law, enforcement and bankruptcy law, international (private and public) law) as well as political science (introduction to political science, history of political thought, social structure of Turkey, contemporary state orders, political sociology, Turkish political life, etc.). In addition, students of the department have the opportunity to study at universities in Turkey and abroad for certain periods of time and to increase their knowledge and experience through Erasmus and Farabi programmes.
Undergraduate students who will graduate from the Department of Public Administration will be able to work in various levels of central and provincial organisations, local governments, administrative judicial authorities, domestic and foreign policy areas. They will be able to obtain titles such as governor, district governor, administrative judge, diplomat, undersecretary, inspector, etc. according to the work they do and the institution they will work in, they will be able to work as civil servants and managers at various levels of the bureaucracy, and they will be sought after to be employed at the management levels of private sector organisations.
At the undergraduate level, the Department of Political Science and Public Administration consists of four departments: ‘Administrative Sciences’, ‘Political and Social Sciences’, ‘Urbanisation and Environmental Problems’ and ‘Legal Sciences’.
